CT Family Development Credentialing and Training Program
The Connecticut Family Development Credential (FDC) program was developed by the University of Connecticut's School of Family Studies and the Children's Trust Fund, joining together as the Connecticut Family Development Institute. The FDC is an interdisciplinary training opportunity, providing applied skill development as a foundation of strength-based practices that value families and the community as essential resources. The ultimate goal of the program is to contribute to a family service delivery system focused on empowerment rather than crisis intervention.
The FDC training program is managed by the Children's Trust Fund and delivered as 80 hours of interactive, experiential learning and the completion of a comprehensive portfolio. The Center for the Study of Culture, Health, and Human Development (CHHD) manages the final examination based on the Empowerment Skills for Family Workers curriculum. With the Children's Trust Fund, the CHHD issues the Connecticut Family Development Credential, which is recognized throughout the state by major family service agencies.
